Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak has rejected the presence of plastic rice in Cambodia, saying that plastic rice issue has been created just to ruin the Cambodian economy.
Speaking to reporters after he visited some retail rice shop in Phnom Penh on Nov. 8, H.E. Pan Sorasak said there is no plastic rice in Cambodia, and those who created this issue want to sabotage Cambodia’s rice export to the international market.
“They know that we have good rice that has won the World’s Best Rice Award for three years consecutively, and our rice is now in high demand on the national and international markets, so they created this issue to pollute the situation and to undermine the reputation of our fragrant rice,” he explained.
Currently, the ministry is collaborating with relevant institutions and competent authorities to find those who were behind the video posted and shared on the social media and send them to court.
The Cambodia Import-Export Inspection and Fraud Repression (CAMCONROL) will soon put into service the mobile product quality check in order to guarantee the people’s welfare, said H.E. Minister.
