Cambodia’s PHKA RUMDUOL Rice Variety Wins 2014 World’s Best Rice Award

Posted: Nov 22, 2014

This year marked the third year in row for Cambodian rice, especially the PHKA RUMDUOL Rice Variety to win such a prestigious award. We won it for the first time during the 2012 World’s Best Rice Award in Bali, Indonesia, and the second time as 2013 World’s Best Rice Award in Hong Kong. This year, 15 countries participated and submitted 25 different rice varieties for the competition. Mekong Oryza Trading was among the Cambodian rice exporters, which was submitting the best Cambodian Phka Romduol sample intended for competition the award World’s Best Rice 2014.Once again, we should all be proud and congratulate our rice farmers for cultivating the PHKA RUMDUOL rice variety, which again won [jointly with Thailand] the World’s Best Rice Award 2014 officially announced by the President and CEO of The Rice Trader, Mr. Jeremy Zwinger, during the last day of the annual World Rice Conference, held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeetra.

President of Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), said that winning the award three times consecutively will help boost Cambodian rice exports. “It is a proud day for our Cambodian rice,” he said. “We hope that Cambodia’s rice reputation gets more well-known from now on. In the meantime, we need to do more work in order to ensure that we have more capacity to supply this well-known rice to the world market.” “I hope that our farmers are now more encouraged to grow such good quality rice. We will continue to try to strengthen the standards of quality,” the CRF president said.
